Spanish Literature Club

The Korean Conversation Group (KCG) brings together Korean international students and students learning Korean to practice the language and connect with one another in a friendly and welcoming environment. This semester, the group meets every Wednesday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in 612 Phillips Hall. Korean learners have the opportunity to use what they have learned in class through natural conversations with native Korean speakers.
In addition to practicing Korean, participants explore Korean culture through a variety of topics and activities and meet other students who share an interest in Korean language and culture. KCG provides a space where students can improve their Korean, experience Korean culture, and build friendships and a sense of community beyond the classroom.

*Wednesday (October 7th) only, the meeting will be held from 6:30–7:30 p.m. in S507 Field House for a Taekwondo experience.

Meets the last Monday of every month. August 31 will take place in 114 Phillips Hall. All subsequent meetings (September 28, October 26, and November 30) will take place in 318 Phillips Hall.

In her book Contemporary PerforMemory: Dancing Through Spacetime, Historical Trauma and Diaspora in the 21st Century (2020), interdisciplinary scholar and artist, Professor Layla Zami coined the concept of perforMemory, both as a noun and as a verb. Drawing on interdisciplinary theory, interviews, performance analysis, and personal storytelling, and moving across geographies and historical entanglements she examines how contemporary dance-makers engage with historical traumas, corporeality and diaspora to reshape memory and imagine new futures.
In her talk, Zami will discuss selected performing and visual arts by Black diasporic artists grounded in African American, Caribbean and Afropean communities, with particular attention to women. Engaging Black Performance Studies and Sound Studies, she will examine how tropes of freedom, possibility and spacetime are (re-)negotiated through the intersections of traumatic memory and future-oriented artistic practice.
